Match Day Preparation: Getting It Right Every Time

Small Details, Big Difference

A strong performance doesn’t start with the first whistle — it starts hours earlier. The best players control what they can: sleep, nutrition, timing, and mental readiness.

For non-league footballers juggling day jobs, family, and long drives, match day prep is about structure and simplicity.

Arrive prepared, and you’ll feel one step ahead before the game even starts.

Actionable tips:

  • Fuel right: a balanced meal of carbs and lean protein 3–4 hours before kick-off.

  • Hydrate early: begin drinking water from the morning, not just pre-match.

  • Arrive early: give yourself time to stretch, tape up, and get mentally tuned in.

  • Structured warm-up: start with mobility drills, progress to sprints and passing tempo.

  • Cool down smart: 10 minutes of light jogging, stretching and hydration.
